Mary Lou Cobb, AMI, CDP
Mary Lou Cobb is the founder and principal of Cobb Education Consulting, LLC. She guides educators, caregivers, and professionals of any industry to improve their programs and build communities that work.
Before establishing her own consulting firm, Mary Lou was the founder and head of The Cobb School, Montessori in Simsbury, CT for 45 years. She received her Montessori Primary Diploma in 1964 and taught for over 30 years before stepping out of the classroom to focus on administration and growing The Cobb School into a thriving, internationally recognized school.
Mary Lou was trained by Margaret Stephenson and mentored by Mother Isabel Eugenie and Margot Waltuch, all of whom were trained by Dr. Maria Montessori.
Mary Lou is a founding board member of The Montessori Administrators Association (MAA), the Montessori Training Center of New England (MTCNE), and the Montessori Schools of Connecticut (MSC) and continues to serve on these boards.
Mary Lou also served on Sphere, a coalition of CT independent schools dedicated to diversity and inclusion and on the Commission for Membership and Accreditation (CMA) for the CT Association of Independent Schools (CAIS).
Mary Lou is Vice President of the Whole School Leadership Board, a trained instructor for the Association of Montessori Internationale’s (AMI) Montessori for the Aging, and sits on the advisory board for the National Intergenerational Montessori Center at Crossway Communities. She is a Licensed Montessori Home Engagement Certification Instructor through NCCAP.

Montessori Home Engagement
NCCAP’s Montessori Home Engagement Course allows you to apply the philosophy of care championed by Dr. Maria Montessori when caring for an older person in the home setting.
Created in partnership with the National Association of Activity Professionals and the National Intergenerational Montessori Center, this curriculum is embedded with Montessori principles proven effective when caring for older persons.
Individuals taking this course learn practical techniques to communicate, interact and engage with those aging in place at home. This knowledge allows you to deliver life-enriching activities and higher quality care that can promote emotional well-being and healthy aging.
You will learn to address common challenges associated with providing care in the home including: communication, mobility, memory, behaviors, eating, bathing and taking medication.
The competencies obtained from this course are designed to improve the health, wellness and quality of life of both the care provider and care recipient. Individuals completing this course can obtain NCCAP Montessori Home Engagement Certification (MHEC) by completing additional educational and work experience requirements.
Founded in 1986, NCCAP is accepted by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is recognized for meeting the highest qualification to deliver the Social Model of Care. To date, NCCAP has trained and certified over 150,000 individuals in the delivery of life enriching activities that optimize physical and cognitive function, and psychosocial well-being.
